Hello! My name is James Lutz. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received my Master's in Social Work from Rutgers University in 1985, and I have been working in the behavioral health field for over 40 years.
I have worked in a variety of settings – inpatient, residential and vocational. I currently work with individuals, families and couples. Presenting problems include anxiety, depression, marital and family issues, and dual diagnosis. My training was initially from a psychodynamic perspective – over the years, I have incorporated cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and motivational interviewing into my practice – I feel that each case is unique, and I tailor a therapeutic approach to each situation. Vocational issues have been paramount to a particular segment of my clientele, and I have collaborated with outside agencies to access specific services for clients, such as life skills training and case management. Coordination with primary care practices has been beneficial in encompassing a whole-centered approach to therapy.
Developing trust and empowering clients through the development of positive coping skills is important in the ongoing therapeutic relationship. My goal is to assist clients through various life stressors, and to enable each client to address these stressors in a positive manner. I look forward to working with you through this process!
