SUSAN TOOHEY, LPC
Susan is a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania and Arizona. She graduated from Lehigh University in 2005 with a Masters in Counseling and Human Services. She is a national certified counselor, distance credentialed counselor and a certified clinical hypnotherapist through The Wellness Institute, utilizing heart-centered therapy. She is trained in EMDR through the EMDR Institute and completed certification through that training. She has integrated EMDR into her work with clients since 2009. Susan has worked in many clinical settings including a cancer center for a large health network, a family residency program, mental health agency counseling for the seriously mentally ill and general mental health clients in Arizona, residential treatment for co-occurring disorders and addictions in Arizona and private practice where her work was integrated with other health care providers. She has extensive experience working with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, chronic and terminal illnesses. She started evaluating bariatric patients seeking psychological clearance for bariatric surgeries in 2005 and worked as part of her practicum through Lehigh at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem with the bariatric coordinator, counseling bariatric patients in addition to cancer patients and families and patients referred to her by the residents and attending physicians at the St. Luke’s Family Practice Residency Program. She has also counseled clients who have desired career changes.
Susan believes in customizing therapy modalities based on the individual needs of each client and she incorporates a holistic approach to her counseling, focusing on mind, body and spirit. She utilizes several evidence-based approaches including mindful meditation, EMDR, CBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, talk therapy and solution focused counseling. Susan believes therapy is an investment of your time and energy and a commitment that should be taken seriously and carefully.
