JOSEPH DONNELLY, LPC
My name is Joseph Donnelly. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I attended Cairn University for my graduate degree in Counseling. I have a broad range of experience in human service management, working with diverse populations that include traumatic brain injuries, drug and alcohol, severe and persistent mental health disorders, autism and intellectual disabilities. I worked as a clinical supervisor for 2 years at an outpatient partial care facility, serving individuals with severe and persistent mental health and substance abuse disorders. On a personal note, I am the parent of an adult son with autism, and have an understanding of how family systems are affected by intellectual disabilities.
I have been counseling for approximately 10 years. My approach is to create a non-judgmental, safe and empathic environment so that a therapeutic relationship can be enjoyed with each individual. My goal is to have each person develop self-awareness of their strengths, challenges, and cognitive and behavioral tendencies, so each person can develop necessary coping skills to be successful in their lives. In counseling, I like to have an eclectic approach, but regularly utilize CBT and Motivational Interviewing. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults, impacted by depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, trauma, grief-loss, eating disorders, and drug and alcohol disorders. I have also worked with couples in regards to marriage counseling and family crisis situations.
